Modern microlight aircraft offer
all the fun and excitement of light aircraft flying with the additional
benefits of lower costs and the ability to use much smaller airstrips when
necessary. They bring back the spirit of pioneering, "grass-roots"
aviation whilst offering safety, comfort and performance.
We provide Microlight training
on our 3-axis microlight aircraft
. We also have an examiner in house for written
exams and flight tests, including revalidations for existing NPPL-M pilots
and Permit to Fly flight tests for 3-axis microlight aircraft owners.
Our instructors can also provide
tail wheel training if required.
Gloucestershire Airport is a
wonderful environment in which to learn, as you will be flying in a busy,
yet microlight-friendly area, with full radio and Air Traffic facilities -
yet all within reach of the beautiful Gloucestershire countryside with many
small grass airstrips which can be visited.
Microlight hire is also available from our
base at Gloucestershire Airport. And if you just want to sample the
delights of microlight flying, why not book a Trial lesson?
Cotswold Aero Club are proud to be associated with the Severn Valley
Microlight Club, which promotes microlight flying activities in our local
area. Our club members regularly attend fly-ins and meetings, enjoying the
friendly camaraderie that is the essence of modern microlight flying.
Microlight FAQ:
In the UK you need a licence to fly a microlight. This is issued by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)
and is called the National Private Pilot’s Licence (NPPL). The rating you need to fly microlights is the Microlight rating.
So when you successfully complete your training course, you will be issued
with an NPPL-M.
The minimum flight time required to obtain an NPPL-M is 25 hours, and there
are 5 ground examinations which must be passed. During the training
course you will be flying a number of hours solo !
NPPL holders can also fly some light aircraft and motor gliders if they have additional ratings added to the basic Licence.
Holders of other Pilot Licences may be entitled to fly microlights as a privilege of another rating. The CAA and JAR PPL with an SEP rating also allow the holder to fly microlights
- all you will need is to get type checked with one of our microlight
instructors.
